The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation. From the desperate city you go into the desperate country, and have to console yourself with the bravery of minks and muskrats. A stereotyped but unconscious despair is concealed even under what are called the games and amusements of mankind. There is no play in them, for this comes after work. But it is a characteristic of wisdom not to do desperate things. ~Henry David Thoreau
The sky is crying. Loud booms of thunder rolls as the heavens play bowling above us. Lightening flashes against the darkened sky lighting up the room that is dark, dreary even with the lights on. Candles on the altar flicker as the ceiling fans are turning low creating a stir in the air. Cherokee comes lies her head on my knee, she looks out a little nervous. We put her thundershirt on, as this calms her down. The pet store had told me that the thundershirt is much like swaddling a baby. It crosses over her solar plexus, pressing giving comfort. Sugar sits in the window sill excited to watch the weather as she likes the drama going on in the world. Frankiecapone just does his thing. My mind watches the scene thinking how much like people’s lives are. Life is full of storms. The world has many people living each day in quiet or sometimes not so quiet desperation. Many face trials, storms every day, each person handles it in their own unique way. Some as Cherokee get very quiet, cuddling against a person they trust, being anxious, fearful of what tomorrow will bring. Others are like Sugar, getting dramatic, sometimes taking impulsive, over reacting steps , acts of desperation, such as he/she won’t call me if I don’t call him/her 40 times today. Then some as FRankiecapone just ignore the whole storm , perhaps even missing wise steps that need to be taken as if the problem doesn’t exist at all. As with Cherokee’s thundershirt, we can smile when we turn to Great Spirit to give us the path that leads out of desperation, out of the storms. See, the whole universe is set up to give us our happiness, our abundance, to solve the problems with joy, peace, with wisdom. Mostly it is being open to hear the answers, not with preconceived notions of the past, or distrust. If we ask spirit for help, we should listen to everything said, rather than criticize saying that can’t be true. ‘” I DON’T SEE IT THAT WAY”. Truthfully if we see it right, then we wouldn’t need to ask spirit. WE won’t make desperate actions, that send us off the path even further, without wisdom.
Animal totems: Minks, Minks are well known for their soft fur. In ancient times, before man realized that animals have messages, souls, and life to give, the very rich used coats of mink fur to keep warm. The mink reminds us to wrap ourselves with love, with richness, knowing that abundance in in our power. Mink is as muskrat, meerkat, reminds us to greet things with joy, with playfulness, yet keep balanced, calm in the middle of the storm. Mink will show the wisdom needed to bring balance, and warmth into our lives.
I am working today this am 9:30 – 12:30 then I will be back my normal hours this evening as usual. I do so look forward to sharing the wisdom I know that spirit gives through me. Many times some may think I am too cocky , too arrogant. I am not. I am very humbled to be allowed to share this gift, but after 59 years of walking with these guides by my side, I have learned to totally put my life into the hands of Great Spirit. May the fairies dance around each of us today.love ya, Me Cherokee, Cidro, FrankieCapone, Sugar Fortune Cookie T and the sweet spirit of Bob and Bets.
