This is not limited to CSG's (catholic school girl) but yes, I am. Eight years, same plaid uniform, same white crsipy button down shirt (it might be the same ones the boys wore), and of course the bow tie! Needless to say, I do not wear plaid and even though the crispy white blouse is so cute with jeans and a great pair of boots, I do not go there! We pick up patterns, choices, and programs from childhood. CSG's say yes maam, no sir ,etc. We don't show emotion, we are obedient, we suffer for our sins, sins???? are mistakes sins??? We do what we're told, get straight A's, don't talk back, don't talk to boys, have no opinions, don't ask questions, forget asking "why". The answer will be "because I said so". The best part, when you knew parents didn't have the answer, "go to your room" "Why"? "Because I said so"! BUT, we did keep the faith, those were not words, parents lived them as well. We all believed. It got us through everything. We prayed before meals, (mandatory dinners as a family, because Mom said so). We laughed, hugged, had fights, kissed and made up, and as adults, became friends. The great thing about what we were given as children, it molded us into who we are now. Our parents laid the foundation for us. We get to take it from here. We have all the power within us to choose whatever we choose. We get to learn from our mistakes, be better today than yesterday, just because we choose. We can hang onto our old programs or change them. Repeat or change, we decide.
