Every 365 days (in leap years, 366 days), Earth revolves around the Sun in 360 degrees. That makes for 1 year. Before the year ends, people make New Year’s Resolutions. You know what these are: it’s those goals, objectives or missions you make for yourself to make changes in life. You want to lose weight, you want to find your loved one, you want to travel the seas… whatever it is, there are so many New Year’s Resolutions in the world.
But there are times when making New Year’s Resolution just won’t change a thing. Some people use it as a scapegoat to make themselves feel good. When New Year comes, they’re so excited to do the resolution then a month later, it’s all over. They’re back to the old self they once were.
Before you start bashing on New Year’s Resolutions, you have to step back and re-think your concept of a New Year’s Resolution. What is it about? Is it about making false promises that will never be fulfilled in the New Year? Are they suppose to be done in the New Year and only done in the New Year?
There are a few ways a New Year’s Resolution can change your life. First is when you make it a clear and reachable goal. Most people who make New Year’s Resolutions tend to make it too generic. They have no specificity on what the goal is. So to make it a life-changing thing, make it clear on what you want. So you want to lose weight? Then do cardio 3 x a week. So you want to quit your job? Quit your job and work your passion. Be more specific and less vague.
Second is when you keep at it. A New Year’s Resolution isn’t something that will change your life in one day. It’s a resolution that takes time. It might take hours, it might takes day or it might take months. The important thing is you keep doing it. Make it a habit to fulfill your resolution. You’ll know what you’re capable of when you persevere.
Third is when it begins to change you bit by bit. A New Year’s Resolution changes your life when it changes you bit by bit. It’s not an instant change in your life; you’ll know it as you begin to live and learn. You’ll make mistakes and you’ll make successes. When you force yourself to learn everything step by step, you’ll know your life is changing slowly but surely.
Lastly, New Year’s Resolution can change your life when you realize you don’t need to wait until the New Year. This is a common misconception about resolutions. You don’t need to wait for the New Year to have resolutions; you can start them now. Why do you need to wait 360+ days to make life changing moments when you already have the time to do it now?
So whatever it is you want to do as a New Year’s Resolution, go for it and keep at it. You’ll be surprised at the changes you’ll experience in life.
