Recession. 2012. World hunger. Apocalypse. Doomsayers. God’s wrath. Your day-to-day work. All these things can bring stress to you in many, many ways. You’ll often hear people spouting a sigh here and there about the world’s going to end or you’ll see articles about world hunger and how it’s putting a sign of guilt upon all of the world, including you. You see the world enclosed in such a negative state. You’re already stressed at work or at school and now you have to worry about the world’s problems too? Is it possible to have a positive mind today?
Actually, it is. Yes, in this chaotic, maniacal world, it is possible. It may look like it’s impossible but if you take your time and breathe slowly and surely, you’ll have a positive mind. Here’s how:
1. Take a breather for 5-10 minutes
When stress begins to invade your mind, take a breather for 5-10 minutes. This has you concentrating on your breathing. By doing so, you’re able to focus on what is happening right now: breathing. When swimmers swim underwater, the only way they can survive is to breathe. So know that breathing is what keeps you going.
2. Think of a word that makes you smile and repeat over and over
Think of a word that really gives you happiness. Anything from your girl’s crush or a video game that has something to do with being you, repeat that word over and over again until it becomes a mantra.
3. Be aware of the negativity and stay with the positivity in your mind
If you’re not aware of the situation, you’ll be denying yourself of the negativity and thus it will haunt you in the future. But if you know about the negativity and you’re not affected by it, then you have achieved a positive mind. So be aware of negativity but never let it affect you.
4. Have some time off
Feel like the world’s taking too much of your time? Then it’s time you took some time off. People like you need to have energy to do their tasks in life so it’s best if you take the break. Go to your favorite restaurant or have a spa trip; steaming off the stress will rejuvenate you to have better ideas about what to do on your day.
5. Stay away from the negative
That means if you have any colleagues with the intent to drag anyone into their zone or if you’re in an environment where negativity is the norm, you might as well switch places. If you’re trying to have a positive mind in a negative environment, it’ll be hard to maintain. But having a positive mind in a positive place will be easier to maintain and you have like-minded people with you.
So is it possible to have a positive mind today? Yes it is. All you need to do is do the steps previously mentioned and you’ll have a positive mind. But don’t think it’ll be instant; it takes time but be determined and be patient. You’ll get that positive mind soon enough.
