Venus and Mars are the two planets of affection and action. When two people have these planets in aspect between (and in) their natal charts, one can expect an impressive amount of passion, energy, and creativity.
Venus rules our ability to harmonize and make peace with our surroundings. A person with a well-placed Venus is charming, funny, pleasant and knows how to be a good host(ess), diplomat and displays courtesy, manners, beauty and refinement. These people are very popular and sociable. Everyone seems to want to be with them or like them. Venus also rules over art, music, culture entertainment, money, and young women.
A poorly placed Venus can result in a person with no aesthetic appreciation, who can be vulgar, unkempt, slovenly, and base. Social skills are lacking and people dislike and will go out of their way to avoid this person.
Mars represents how we go about getting what we want, our energy, and physical courage. A well-placed Mars is full of adventure, athletic abilities, leadership skills, and energy. Mars represents competitions, fighting, weapons, fires, and young men.
A poorly placed Mars is overly and inappropriately aggressive, likes to start arguments/fights with others. They are often violent and are not physically coordinated.
Every year transiting Mars and transiting Venus aspect each other between three and eight times - by major aspect. When these two planets hit each other one the ramifications can be relationship issues, the beginning, intensification, problems, or ending of partnerships and friendships.

In 2014 Venus and Mars will aspect each other seven times! This is due to the fact that Venus went retrograde in the beginning of 2014, until Jan 31st, and then Mars goes retrograde from March-May 2014. (In 2013 neither Venus nor Mars went retrograde.)
Below are the dates when Mars and Vensu will make a major aspect to each other in 2014:

The retrogrades of Venus and Mars this year shows up in different ways in relationships. Some people may go back to a former partner and start again or some relationships that begin during a retrograde Venus/Mars may end after the planet goes direct. Other relationships may experience some turmoil or intense events of some kind.
All in all there is a back and forth, delays or intensity around relationships. Venus entered her aggressive Morning Star position on Jan 11th 2014 (I wrote about here) so things may heat up and this may cause problems, jealousy, and possibly break-ups.
Pay attention to the dates when Venus and Mars hit off and around that time you may notice events or experiences which affect your relationships with family, friends, or partners.
During Mars retrograde, you may find that you need to go back and work something out. Perhaps a past event between you and someone else that had not been settled will be gone over again until you are both satisfied with a fair conclusion.
We cannot escape our pasts, or our past relationships, they will come back and haunt us.
BTW: Mercury just went retrograde on Thursday Feb 6th and will appear to go backwards until Feb 28th when it goes direct again. This is an excellent time to go back and review, re-think, reorganize, redo, etc. previous issues in your life. This may mean revisiting past problems to find a solution this month. Of course there may be problems with communications and traveling so be prepared for that.
The last two times Mars aspected Venus, they formed a hard aspect to each other on Sept 28th, 2013 then Jan 16th 2014. Around these times or on one or both of these days, you may have experienced an upsetting/surprising event that dealt with relating to someone else.
Mars goes retrograde and squares off with Venus again on March 2nd 2014, and this may cause you to re-experience the issue from Sept 28th 2013 and/or Jan 16th.
With Mars going retrograde, this is the time when you will have to relive or go back and address any issues from the past. Mars will go retrograde on March 1st 2014 and Mars goes direct on May 19th After Mars goes direct you will be able to move on in a more confident and positive direction, putting these past issues behind you for good.
