There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you.... In spring, summer and fall people sort of have an open season on each other; only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself. ~Ruth Stout
If you doubt yourself, then indeed you stand on shaky ground. ~Henrik Ibsen
The world outside my French doors is completely white. The sky fills with fluttering flakes of snow drifting quickly down covering the ground. The beauty of the still, white Mother Earth fills the inner souls with a quietness even the pups, the 3 amigos, are more settled down than usual. We are enclosed in the house with a peaceful, privacy, a solitude of our energies that can only serve us well today. Mercury in retrograde has reared its technology confusing head early on this time, so a chance to just sit with hot chocolate in hand, the pups lying on blankets at my feet, we are at peace. Taking the time to meditate, which means listening not talking, we can gain confidence in our hearts thoughts. This day of staying inside, keeping close to ourselves, cuddled under the mass of blankets, we can hear our inner voices speaking to us of many wondrous things. Of joys, of worries, of new beginnings, even of the spring that will yes, oh yes, the spring will eventually come. These thoughts wrap around our cluttered minds with warmth, with hope, the doubts that the temps will stay in the 5 degree to 25 degree weather forever, reminding us that this time of travail will pass. Spring will come with confidence, with surety, the lessons we learned in the time of solitude, in the time where Mother Earth traps us in the privacy of staying inside, no rushing around, no cluttering our mind, just relaxing our senses, clearing our head, the long stretch of belonging to ourselves, we can open up the confidence in our own thoughts, our own beliefs, rather than listening to the world.
Animal totems: Quail: Sister Quail’s family huddles together in the nest, in the bushes, to stay warm. She reminds us that we need people in our lives, yet to be mindful of the dangers of getting trapped in the world. Nurturing others, giving , the romance of closeness is her medicine. Quail teaches us to be quiet in our soul, so we can learn the confidence of our own soul name, our own souls thoughts.
