Please keep in mind while reading my blog that I am a Mystic, not a Christian (though also NOT-NOT a Christian), I believe we are all part of a divine being and that all context centering around the divine are messages from the SAME being, just under a different "title" and to be used more as moral lessons in story form for us. Sort of like Aesop's Fables for children, I believe the many spiritual books that are out there and considered to be the foundation of most religions are much the same but for an older audience then for children.
That being said today my focus is on a quote from the Bible, in Romans, chapter fifteen, verse one:
"We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves."
This is so true a statement (ask ANY Cancer Sun you know)!!!
Many of us have had more experiences in our lives that have given us the opportunity to breakdown, re-build and RISE-UP, others, haven't, or they've gotten stuck in the BREAKDOWN or RE-BUILD and never come back from the ashes as a Phoenix, ready for flight.
Those of us that have the immense blessing of having gone through hell and lived to tell the tale have a unique position on the karmic wheel, we MUST help those of us in need, even those you "see" no point in helping, or the one's that "would take it for granted" or even "reject" your help. Like that neighbor you hate? Or your cousin that stole from you years ago and now you ignore with conviction? How about that single-mom that you see at the grocery store? Or the foster children that are hoping to get a "winter coat" this year?
The second verse of Romans, chapter fifteen, tells us:
"Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up."
But what does that mean? And what if the person does nothing with my help? Or waste the money I give them to buy beer? Or __________(fill-in-the-blank-with-another-negative-thought)?
It means exactly what it says, and our neighbor is NOT just the person next door, it's all of mankind, it's every single person you interact with or see and I believe we are all part of the same being (God/Allah/Buddha/Vishnu)~what happens from the good you do won't instantaneously be apparent always, but what you do will make YOU feel better and it will make THEM feel better and in making THEM better, you ARE being a GOOD person, that's where the wheel starts spinning.......
By going out of your way to help those around you, without their asking, on your own accord will lead to good feelings, even the WORST people in the world, will FEEL better after helping a brother or sister (a "neighbor") in need, and even they will receive the rewards of it, the more GOOD you do, the more GOOD will come to YOU. It's not always fast acting people!!! Bare in mind, many could/would say "I've done a LOT of GOOD and I still can't make my mortgage or and my spouse is still cheating or whatever calamities they're feeling"-THIS IS TEMPORARY, you WILL relieve your COMEUPPANCE, we all will, sometimes you have to wait until your in your 70's and then Publisher's Clearing House shows up with balloons, most times, however, it manifest in other ways, typically when we're least expecting it.
To close, the third verse of chapter fifteen in the book of Romans, I'm using Christ as that is what is written but substitute that name for whatever name you have given to the divine, as your divine is the same:
"For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me."
This means that even when it feels too difficult to help, because of our own feelings (i.e.-but my cousin never paid me back, but my neighbor is insane, but that homeless man is just going to go buy booze), we must step up to the plate, why? Because we(YOU) are stronger and your strength will HELP the person in question to RE-BUILD their OWN life, even the smallest of gestures will hold a LONG-RANGING effect for you and them.
Please, go out of your way to help someone else. in whatever way you can and offer this HELP, to someone you would NOT normally "HELP"(or even want to help).
In helping each other, we help the world, SHARE your STRENGTH.
Additionally, since I'm posting this and rarely take phone calls, I'm adding that I am available on chat now, to those of you who are interested in a reading:
