There has been non-stop reporting about Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito since their guilty verdict was handed down yesterday.
Today in a news article they published Knox's full letter to the Italian Supreme Court. At the end of the letter was a huge gif of her signature. (see below)
A treat for those who study graphology to analyze. You can tell a lot about someone from their handwriting. Many people all over the world study it. It has practical uses and can help tell when someone is being dishonest as well as about their general personality. Graphology has also been used to solve crimes.
The first thing to notice is that her signature is very large. This is common among people who like to be prominent or famous.
Her capital 'A' and 'K' are much larger than the rest of her writing which indicates that she wants to be famous, socially prominent and important. Make no mistake about it, she feels entitled to all of the attention that she receives by the media. Notice how the first 'A' in Amanda is drawn like a star - literally? That is no accident! She also has a lot of pride.
Also, she has a large 'middle zone' in her writing, which means that her lowercase letters are larger than normal. This indicates someone who is immature and self-centered. Children and young people often have large middle zones but generally grow out of it later in life. These people may have a difficult time planning for the future or delaying gratification because they are always thinking 'in the now.'
Many people have a large signature and middle zone and this does not make them a criminal. However there are a couple of disconcerting details in her writing.
One is called an 'arcade' which is the overlap or overhand stroke on the second 'a' in Amanda and also the 'd' in Amanda. It is like a cover over the letter. According to Andrea McNichol, who wrote 'Handwriting Analysis Putting it to Work for You' published in 1991, , "Arcades indicate a desire to cover up, a desire for formality, control, to pretend to live by a rule rather than live one's own life. This person has a concern for appearances and tradition, but it's a facade, a self-protective gesture. Arcades are associated with giving lip service rather than sincerity. The arcade maker is the hypocrite who has something to hide."
One more troubling trait in her writing is what is known as 'stabbing the o's' or putting those two lines in the 'o' of Knox. These are associated with being very secretive and/or a liar.Today in a news article they published Knox's full letter to the Italian Supreme Court. More handwriting would be need to studied before making any firm conclusions about someone. However, a signature can be revealing!
