The term “the third eye” is a metaphysical term meaning your inner eye. It refers to that spot between and just above your physical eyes. In dharma traditions it is your brow chakra, represented by the color indigo. When the energy is flowing well and any debris cleared out, it channels your intuition. It is where I see or use my clairvoyance. It is a gateway to your higher consciousness, and it symbolizes a state of enlightenment. It is also represented by the term seer. I was struck by it for 2 reasons-
- My third eye has been very active, I can feel the energy run through it strongly even as I write this blog.
- I found an article this week that addressed the third eye and its relationship with the pineal gland.
The Pineal gland is located under the grey matter of the brain at the top of the brain stem. It is referred to as the pineal body, epiphysis cerebri, epiphysis or the "third eye". The Pineal gland has been considered the link between the physical and the spiritual world. It is thought to be the most powerful and highest source of ethereal energy available to humans. It aids in the development of psychic abilities and is associated with second sight or clairvoyance as I previously stated.
What I found interesting is I read an article in Epoch Times, “The pineal gland in the human brain has the structure of an eye. It has cells that act as light receptors, as the retina does. It has a structure comparable to the vitreous—a gel-like substance between the retina and lens of the eye. It has a structure similar to a lens.” (1)
In 1995, Dr. Cheryl Craft, chair of the department of cell and neurobiology at the University of Southern California wrote about lizards have who have a third eye. The pineal gland has been tested and can recognize light. Not only that, because it recognizes light it can produce melatonin in the amount it recognizes. It also produces Serotonin, to help us rest.
So the Pineal gland that operates internally at the position of the Brow Chakra connects us to the divine. When I meditate and practice seeing through my third eye, I clear it using a bright white light, running the energy in and out of the Chakra, then the indigo light to connect. It is another piece of evidence that our spiritual body connects to our physical body.
