Amanda Knox, the Seattle student who was convicted of murder in Italy in 2009. In 2011 she was released. Her acquittal was later annulled by the Italian Supreme court in March 2013 (which I wrote about here)leaving Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito provisionally guilty today. The Italian Supreme court will be making a final decision at the end of this month - January 30th 2014.
The then twenty-year-old was called "Foxy Knoxy" and portrayed by the Italian prosecutors and press as a vixen whose sexual assault led to her roommate, Meredith Kercher's death in November 2007. In reaction to this, her family hired a PR firm, Gogerty Marriott, who counteracted with many pro-Amanda websites, blogs, comments, reviews, and other news.
Amanda and her two-week-old boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito were convicted and sentenced to 25/26 years in prison, along with a third man, Rudy Guede who was sentenced to 30 years. Amanda and Raffaele were released from prison four years later in 2011.
Whether or not Amanda and Raffaele are guilty of being involved in the murder of Meredith Kercher has been and continues to be divisive topic.
Raffaele published his own book, Honor Bound which some claim proves his innocence while others accuse him of failing to explain his whereabouts that fateful night and romanticizing his short romance with Amanda while timing the release of the book in order to help them in court.
Sollecito has attended court twice, unlike Amanda Knox who defied her lawyers suggestion to return and instead sent an email. Originally, the verdict was going to be handed down on January 10th and I wrote about the transits around that time in this blog.
Knox's acquittal was thrown out for manifest illogicality, inconsistency, and violation of law for all conclusions by the Italian Supreme Court. It looks like they will be convicted again, but even if they are, they will have the option to appeal again. Publicity has been the main tool for her supporters and detractors in attempting to sway public opinion.
While public opinion doesn't affect the trial it may be a factor in her subsequent extradition. If found guilty, again, she may be extradited to Italy.
There are a couple of interesting similarities in their charts. They both have final dispositors (all of the planets ultimately ruled by one planet alone). For Amanda this is Jupiter, which is located in her 12th house of imprisonment and for Raffaele, it is his Mars which is also considered in his 12th house.
They were both destined for some sort of incarceration and/or self-undoing in life and they just happen to meet up with each other which only reinforced this natural inclination in their own charts!
Another interesting point, neither of them have any planets in air! The element of air is necessary to be objective and to understand and relate well with others. Amanda overemphasizes this lack, as she needs to since she has her all-important Ascendant in the air sign of Gemini. Throughout her life, she has kept extensive journals and studied languages. However, her writing has worked for and against her. First she sent an email explaining herself to friends, before she was considered a suspect. Some believe she was trying to establish and memorize a concocted story. Later on, in prison she wrote a version of events which she handed to prosecutors and that was used against her along with the diary she kept. Finally, she posted short story on her Myspace account called "Baby Brother" which centers around the nonchalance of perpetrators in the violent rape of a young woman. This was also used against her in court as showing that she had a criminal mind.
A lack of air in a chart does not denote lower intelligence but difficulties in socializing and dealing with others. This does seem to be the case with both of these young people. Their behavior and inability to explain themselves, especially with Amanda, was used as proof against them.
There was a theory that Amanda had put a spell on Raffaele and he followed her around like a puppy dog. Raffaele is an Aries Sun / Capricorn Moon with all of his planets on the eastern side of his chart, he does what he wants.
Amanda on the other hand, has a Cancer Sun with her Moon in the 7th house which makes her very sensitive to others. I would speculate that if anyone was leading anyone, Raffaele took the lead and she followed. In addition, her grasp of the language was not very strong when the murder occurred, only 2 months after she moved to Italy while he was a native.
Her 480 page memoir did nothing to help explain her actions in the days following the discovery of Meredith's body. During the trial, she changed her story and accused an innocent man of being involved in the crime (Patrick Lumumba). Amanda does not have a firm grasp on reality and this is shown in multiple ways in her chart.
Amanda not only lacks air in her chart but she also only has one planet in earth - Neptune! Planets in earth signs help keep us grounded and able to deal with reality and to be responsible. Neptune is the planet of illusion and deception. This caused her to lack direction, discipline and the ability to deal with the events in an appropriate manner.
In combination with this, her ascendant ruler (Mercury)is weakly placed and in a hard aspect to Neptune (planet of illusion) compounded these issues and caused her to make numerous mistakes and seemingly unable to recall what she was really doing that night. This did not help her case and led to her initial conviction.
