The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy was accomplished by a team of approximately 20 professionals. Lee Harvey Oswald did shoot the President from behind, striking him in the neck. But as he himself stated, he was only a Patsy...the fall guy.
Only a few of the assassins were gunman. Many were technicians who handled logistics, passports, and disguises. They had several backup plans to escape the scene and leave the country.
The Assassin often referred to as 'Badge Man,' was in a uniform that looked almost identical to the Dallas Police Department. After firing the fatal head shot, he climbed up the hill behind the grassy knoll, taking his rifle apart and handing the two pieces to technician/assassins disguised as Rail Road Workers who put the pieces into tool bags.
This team assembled in at least three separate locations and made their way out of the country in stages to avoid suspicion.
