Do not smother him/her. If you do, there is the possibility that he/she will move away from you to give themselves some space, which is normal. If you rush in to fill the gap he/she will continue to create this space. Relax and make sure that the relationship is 100% mutual and you will both be closer.
Don't bring their family into an argument; it's not their fault who their family is.
Showing love takes commitment on your part. Doing little things can mean so much to that special person in your life. Don't take them for granted.
Try to put off a discussion until a cooler time instead of jumping in when the adrenaline is pumping and you're feeling the most hurt, or threatened, or accused.
Don't bring up old arguments, they already happened and if they are dug up it will only create a greater rift between you
Write poetry, make cookies, or buy roses for them.
