We feel cold, but we don't mind it, because we will not come to harm. And if we wrapped up against the cold, we wouldn't feel other things, like the bright tingle of the stars, or the music of the Aurora, or best of all the silky feeling of moonlight on our skin. It's worth being cold for that. ~Philip Pullman
All my life I had been looking for something, and everywhere I turned someone tried to tell me what it was. I accepted their answers too, though they were often in contradiction and even self-contradictory. I was naïve. I was looking for myself and asking everyone except myself questions which I, and only I, could answer. It took me a long time and much painful boomeranging of my expectations to achieve a realization everyone else appears to have been born with: that I am nobody but myself. ~Ralph Ellison, "Battle Royal"

Many times we put titles on ourselves, or others put titles on us. When the fad, the rule, or to fit into everyone’s box, we allow these titles to sit on us, but then proceed to live anyway we want to, forgetting that we are meant to practice what we preach. When we wear the title, we must fill the role. As we can see, here are 4 different rules of thought, but actually basically the same. Each one preaches love for one another, self – sacrificing, standing up for what we believe in. The key is living our beliefs but this doesn’t mean shoving these beliefs down other’s throats, insisting they too follow these rules. We TEACH others to want to be like us, by showing that we believe these things. There are some who are meant to battle against the world for the teachings he/she follows, we should admire these for standing strong about what he/she believes even if we disagree, yet the key to winning is to without shouting, shoving, pushing , fighting, just living quietly what we preach. There are times when I realize that the masters, Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, John Smith, John Calvin, apostle Paul although he created riots wherever he went, would be devastated at the lengths of hatred that come from “standing up for my religion”. Gentle, kind, love achieves much more, non- judgement of others brings much more respect, as clearly the very ones we criticize can see our faults as well. To know who we are, to believe in who we are, to keep being who we are no matter how the world comes against us, to love ourselves so we can show love, this will bring us the peace we seek.
Animal totems: Llama – sister llama is gentle, quiet, she’s definitely not an aggressive animal. She is sure of her footing as she travels rough terrain with balance, with grace, with ease. Not complaining, she keeps on her path moving slowly, safely without haste. She loves family, loving to be among others yet remembers her medicine is to not let others push her into the way to go. Her totem reminds us to ask ourselves who we are, are we living as we believe we are.
