The murder of Meredith Kercher in 2007 has spawned a flurry of publicity. Early on, Amanda Knox's family hired PR Firm Gogerty Marriott, who showcases her on their website.
Amanda Knox is not an actress or politician but a suspect in a murder case. She was convicted of murder in 2009, released in 2011, and now facing a re-conviction.
Through her PR firm, Knox obtained a 4 million dollar book deal along with many paid interviews.
PR works in many ways, including 'crisis management' for when a negative story is about to hit the press, they counter it with a conflicting story. A recent example was when the Italian prosecutor asked the court to find Knox guilty and sentence her to life in prison, the PR released a story the same day claiming Knox was filing a petition with the European Court of Human Rights.
PR also utilizes social media. A constant drumming of positive spin in the hopes of lifting their client's reputation. However, the question is, "Should a PR firm do this type work for a murder suspect?"
