For the first time in my life I have experienced mountains...As soon as i landed in Vegas i felt a roiling energy. After a few days on the strip this energy subsided and I experienced more of the excited people flashing lights I expected to feel. On a day trip to the Red Rock Canyon this feeling returned with a vengeance. I can now understand why so many people climb mountains to reach altered states. As we drove up the path I began to see strange images and a story stated to formulate. i will share it here.
The people were stuck in a rocky place scrambling up and down the rock faces endlessly searching for enough food to survive. In no place was it flat enough even for a child to layout straight. The waters would come and go with no pattern. So, the people had to collect as much as possible in case the waters did not return quickly. The people had short fat animals to carry the water. They called them ponies. They were skinny and died early. Always either too cold in the shade of the great mountain or too hot on the exposed hills. Great snapping turtles roamed the land Many of the plants had spines and thorns. So that in order to feed themselves the people always left some blood on the ground.
Despite all this hardship the people were kind gentle honest and giving. Keeping regular celebrations and assisting those who were lost in the land. The Middle aged assisted the older ones and everyone listened to the wisdom of the children................................ Every time they ate anything the people thanked the food with heartfelt regret of taking the lifespirit. Great spirit took pity on the people. Seeing how they were living with harmony. So he sent a great flood the waters raged for many years. The people survived in caves in the high places. Animas and plants would rush by in the raging waters. After a time the waters ceased and after a little more time ants began marching out of the caves. great multitudes of straight lines the people were comfortable in the caves having stated to grow crops and breed animals so took little notice. before long the ants returned with colourful fragrant flowers everything else in the cave was grey and stinky so soon enough the women took notice and began to talk about investigating where the ants were going. The old men reminded the women about the climbing and the constant hunger and cold. The women reminded the men that in that time there were no flowers but eventually conceded that the dangers of the giant snapping turtles are not worth a few colourful bits.
But the young men were hiding and listening to the meeting as they usually did. A son of the most vocal woman was there and suggested the other boys to go exploring the next morning. One of the more logical boys suggested they first find out what they were in for by spending the week asking the old ones about "the other place." So the next week the boys made plans to go. But, boys being boys some of them were too noisy and excited to get out of the house undetected and others slept in. A few of the more clever mother's had elaborate multi dish breakfasts that lasted several hours for "their brave explorers". So only two boys ended up at the rally point on the designated morning. The boy who suggested it and his much older brother. Just outside the cave was a steep cliff with no perceptible bottom. So they brought many stiff pony hair ropes, a fire bundle and enough food for a month. They began to climb down.
When they touched the ground the boy untied the ropes and cautiously looked around. They stepped out of the shade and felt the hot sun on their back. They decided to walk awhile in the shady part to avoid the burning rays The land was flat for what seemed like forever as they walked the saw great coils of wind In the distance great fires burned in walls moving in serpentine patterns/ The orange and yellow was burning to the eyes compared to the grey shadows they were use to. Water fell from the rock face that was sheltering them but in the sunny places the heat would make the water disappear before it reached the ground. The boys saw many areas of green and yellow and yet the ground closest to them was black and ashy. Before long the sky began changing from yellow to purple and then it was dark. The boys began to venture across the plain. Leaving a piece of pony rope every few feet tired to the less spicy plant. By the light of a fat burning torch the boys walked shivering until the next morning again the sun began to tun the sky from black to purple flowers began to bloom and flying creatures from every direction go flying to and fro. Before long the boys found some taller trees and the beautiful flowers and some other plants that were tall and short with sharp needles in the centre was some water and a few rocky hills the boys were hungry so they sat behind a rock and ate. As they did a number of animals and birds and bugs began visiting the water and the flowers as the sun rose in the sky. It was hot so the boys began following the pony hairs. As they walked they noticed that the animals are much more scaly and quick. The boys began to be afraid that the heat will slow them down as they remembered the heat of the day before. (okay I have like another three hours of writing but i need to cook my husband dinner)
