No language can express the power, and beauty, and heroism, and majesty of a mother's love. It shrinks not where man cowers, and grows stronger where man faints, and over wastes of worldly fortunes sends the radiance of its quenchless fidelity like a star. ~Edwin Hubbell Chapin Her beauty shines out and within Her love for everyone she sees has always been shown in everything, large and small She has preservered through out all that life has tossed her way So in this day of all days, her birthday We celebrate our mom. The glory in living is not never falling, but rising every -time you fall – Nelson Mandela The morning had just begun for me. 6:30 am, I was feeding my pups, when the telephone rang. My precious mother was on the line. “ I don’t want to bother you, but I’ve been on the internet . I think I’m having a stroke. I’m going to go to the ER.” I felt that rush of fear that any child would feel when I heard these words. What if I didn’t get there in time, but calming my own inner being, I went out there to pick her up taking her to the ER. The next few hours as we tried to determine what was wrong, the doctors decided to keep her. Her last audible understandable words to me were why don’t you go home and go to work. To this day, I’m very glad that I didn’t obey my mother, because in the next 10 minutes, we almost lost her. Even when she came out of the worst, we were told she would never be coherent, never do this, never do that.. Yet as much as hero, as much an inspiration as Nelson Mandela, my mother has fought, battled her way as least part of the way back up. Yesterday I watched as she told the housekeeper with gestures, hand signals, to turn off the other TV in the room, to put a trash bag in the trash bin. She signaled to me to get out of the way so the woman could mop the floor, ever the regal queen that she is, she leads not only with intelligence, but she without a single word rules the day. Today is her birthday. 81 years, she is still such an inspiration, I was stopped recently by another patient. He explained to me, that she inspires him. He watches her wheel herself down, using one arm, one leg as the other side was affected by the strokes. She goes up and down the hall, patting one patient on the hand to comfort, waving from the doorway to another still in the bed. this older man’s eyes filled with tears as he said, She helps me be able to do this everyday. My own eyes fill with tears as I ask the Great spirit to just let me be half of who she is. Just to be able to give as she gives even in her own pain. As I watch the news about a great man, Nelson Mandela, such an inspiration, we celebrate his life, I also celebrate another great, on her birthday , My mother, Ms Ann. animal totems Ibis : Never having heard of this bird, I am amazed by his beauty .
