Some of us will celebrate Thanksgiving on Thursday. I have to admit, it is one of my favorite holidays. Getting the entire family together for a great meal, wide-ranging conversation, and fun is something I look forward to each year.
It's somewhat the fashion to complain about every little thing these days. It is one thing to complain about a situation, event, or person then turn around to find a solution. It's an entirely different animal to just complain. Complaining in this way does no good and may even make a situation worse.
I have a roof over my head. Is it mine? No, but I can afford the rent. It's comfortable and secure. For this, I am thankful.
I have a job. Do I like it? Not always, but I believe in what I do for a living and honestly think that some days I make a difference in peoples' lives.
I have a car to drive around in. Do I like it? Yes, although we may have a words on those rare days that it would rather go to the service garage than take me to work. Still, it's my favorite fabulous little red car.
These are all things that I could complain about. They are also things that I can directly change. What about those complaints that you don't think you can directly affect?
I live in the United States. Do I like how our legislature is functioning? No, absolutely not! Is there something I can directly do about them? No, not really. What I can do is get active here to help get people in office who can and will actually work together for OUR collective benefit. I am thankful that I live in a country where I can complain about my state or federal government without going to jail or disappearing mysteriously in the middle of the night.
What do you complain about? Is there some way you can improve or remedy it? Is there something you just complain about and never take action to resolve? Look carefully at these. Expending energy in this way depletes you. It may also invite other non-productive patterns to visit you.
Finally, on this day I am thankful for you who take the time to read my blog. I am thankful for this platform to share my thoughts and gifts. I am thankful for those people who have helped me, encouraged me to open up to my healing and psychic abilities. Mostly, I am thankful for my family. Will there be moments of sadness this first Thanksgiving without either of our parents? Yes, but there will also be funny remembered stories. There will be laughter and love. For all of this and more, I am thankful.
Have a joyous holiday however you choose to celebrate!
