My favorite way to start the day is to take my coffee outside on the porch and give myself a quick three card tarot reading. The coffee and the fresh air clear my head and help me focus, and the cards prepare me to meet my day in the most positive manner possible. The spread itself is very simple, and you could easily add more categories if desired. I shuffle and cut my deck, then lay out three cards starting from left to right.
The first card represents helpful information about my physical being. Maybe I need to drink more water, take a nap, spend more time outside, exercise more. If the first card is The Sun, for instance, I'll have plenty of energy and it would be a good day to run errands or go have fun.
The second card gives me insight into my emotions. Can I look to a bright, cheery day, or should I brace myself for something that will make me sad? If it looks like my emotional state will be somewhat precarious, then it's a fine day to avoid people who have the ability to rattle me.
The final card denotes my intellectual prowess for that particular day. Would I be better off waiting to balance the checkbook? Maybe this is a great day for creative projects and daydreaming. If it looks like a scattery day, I better make sure to have a to do list.
Just below is a graphic of the chart I made to keep track of the daily readings. Please feel free to copy it for your use, or to adapt this idea to suit your own needs. Using this chart has helped me to identify and track my personal energy cycles. I've noticed patterns that would otherwise have escaped me completely.
Note: There is a space on the chart to write a keyword (or words) for each of the cards you pull, so I'll post a list of keywords in tomorrow's blog.
