Your natal chart is a blueprint of your life, based on the time, place and minute of your birth. It is like a puzzle that can be solved telling us who you are, what your direction in life will be, and the important people you will meet along the way, along with answers to many other life questions. But there are many pieces to the puzzle that must all fit together to get the picture of what is happening in your life at any given time.

There are many components to a birth chart and that furnish an astrologer information. The main components are the planets, which represent our needs and drives and sometimes they can represent people. The zodiac signs tell us how the energies are modified and the houses tell us which area of your life these energies will be expressed in. An astrological chart is divided into twelve houses or sections of a chart. Each of the houses means something different and shows a section or a slice of your life. For example the first house is the house of the self, and the twelfth house actually represents the subconscious mind or the end of the wheel, sometimes considered the end of a cycle. All the houses between one and twelve represent different areas.

Here’s a look at the basics what each of the houses represent:

-First House This house represents the self, the individual and your personality or temperament. This includes physical appearance, body and views on life.

-Second House This house is about money, earned income and values, which include values connected with ourselves, our bodies, and our self worth and self esteem. It also concerns personal property and possessions.

-Third House This house is connected to our mind and communication, and how we communicate which includes our abilities to write and speak. It shows our neighborhood and how we are connected to it, as well as immediate family members-brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins.

-Fourth House This house involves our early home and childhood development, as well as past and present family. It also concerns the Mother. It is sometimes considered ‘the end of the matter,’ and in some cases shows death.

-Fifth House This house shows children, friends and love affairs. It also relates to pleasure, creativity, entertainment and fun.

-Sixth House This house relates to health and fitness. Also work, daily routines and pets.

-Seventh House This house is considered the house of marriage or committed relationships. It also relates to courts and ‘open enemies.’ or those we know are our enemies. It is connected with business partnerships as well and can show divorce or failed marriages.

-Eighth House This house is connected to sex, jointly held resources with others, money connected with partners, how we ‘feel’ in a relationship and major life transformations that can include death. It is considered the house of transformation, and shows an interest in life after death and the ‘mysteries’ of life.

-Ninth House This house is connected with our general outlook on life, education, legal and medical matters. It is also connected to larger thoughts and ideas that expand the mind, and travel to foreign countries.

-Tenth House This house is about your career and reputation as well as social standing. It also represents the father.

-Eleventh House This is the house of friends, hopes and wishes. It represents groups and organizations that you might be associated with as well as companies.

-Twelfth House This is the house of the subconscious mind, the spiritual realization. It represents your inner world and what is in your subconscious mind. It is connected with seclusion, either confinement by choice or otherwise, such as prison. It is related to endings, and the end of cycles in your life.

The twelve houses are only a small part of your astrological chart. Many other factors must be considered in analyzing your birth chart which is unique to each individual.
