Is a smile a question? Or is it the answer? ~Lee Smith
Nearby the waterfall, we can see a rainbow rising up out of the mist at the bottom of the water. The rainbow we know is a collection of reflections of the light on the waters flashing into our eyes. We squint looking again to see if this is the reality or if it is an illusion that we want to focus on. Yet the rainbow is there, the waters are there, even the mist rising up. Smiles often float up as well. Sometimes it takes time to decipher if there is a rainbow or not. Sometimes we see smiles that we can’t tell if it is a real smile, that starts with a belly laugh, carries into our eyes, so all the world can see our joy. Other times we can see a smile, but behind the smile there is sadness hidden behind that smile. Either way a smile can make our way into our heart, lighting up even the darkest of moments. A smile can bring love, when we seem to think there is none to come, We will see smiles in our questions, smiles in the answers so we can still hope.
Animal totems: Squirrel: Squirells are busy gathering acorns, walnuts, etc for winter right now. We can see them running by with a nut in their cheek. This creates them to look as if each one is smiling with joy as he runs with his prize. Squirrel medicine reminds us to have fun as well as hard work, smiles as well as tears during our lives, our days.
